To install AppleFacts, simply double click the "AppleFacts Installer" icon, and then click the "Install" button when the install window appears. The AppleFacts notebook, the Spiral Read-Only application and a help notebook will be installed to your startup disk, placed in a folder named "AppleFacts Folder". If you have anti-virus programs in use, you'll have to be there to give permission for the installer to run.
Using AppleFacts

Double-click the AppleFacts notebook to open it. The Read-Only version will not allow you to modify the document, but you can view it and Copy from it and Paste to other applications. It will remember what page you were on and open the notebook to that page the next time. If you don't like this and want to open to the same page every time, just lock the file by doing a "Get Info" on it in the Finder and checking the "Locked" check box.
About Spiral

Spiral is an application for taking and organizing notes. It also works well as a catalog browser, as you'll see when you use AppleFacts. It's ideally suited to PowerBooks, since it loads entirely into memory and tries to stay off your hard drive as you use it. To learn all about Spiral, double-click the "About Spiral" notebook that the installer puts on your disk.
If you already own Spiral:

If you already own a full working version of Spiral, you should throw away the Spiral Read-Only file that this installer puts on your disk - it will just confuse the Finder to have two versions of the same program on your disk and the Read-Only version is just a subset of the real thing.
If you already own a full working version of Spiral, bump the memory it gets to 1400K - AppleFacts is a large notebook (around 170 pages, with graphics) and it needs the extra memory (to do this, select the icon in the Finder, and choose Get Info from the file menu). The latest version of Spiral is 1.0.2, if you have an earlier version call or link TechWorks for the most recent version, it's a free upgrade.
